Emotionally Focused Therapy and Training Australia

In 2001, while a post graduate student at the University of Queensland, Jenny Fitzgerald discovered in the library database a book chapter published by Sue Johnson and Les Greenberg in 1992, Emotionally focused therapy for couples: Restructuring attachment. The concept of “restructuring attachment” captured her imagination and she began making plans to learn EFT.

With the support of her UQ supervisors, the Australian Psychological Society (APS) was approached to sponsor EFT for Couples training in Australia, which began in July 2006, when one of Sue Johnson’s trainers, Dr Veronica Kallos-Lilly from the Vancouver Couples and Family Institute, arrived in Brisbane to deliver the first four-day Externship in EFT.

Veronica was warmly received and returned several times across ensuing years, sponsored by the APS. She has nurtured the growth of EFT learning for many people in Australia through teaching and supervision, and inspired Jenny to work for certification as Sue Johnson’s first Australian EFT therapist, supervisor and trainer.

Jenny has conducted Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) workshops in every state and territory in Australia, and has provided guidance and support to many clinicians who have successfully learned and applied EFT in their practices.
